What to do if you suspect a recall or safety issue

Recalls are issued against specific model and serial ranges, not against brands, so a headline naming a manufacturer tells you very little about the appliance in your own basement. The rating plate on the unit is what actually answers the question.

If you are unsure where to look or what you are reading, call us with the appliance to hand and we will talk you through it. If a unit does fall inside an affected range, the manufacturer's remedy is the route to follow and we will point you at it.

Anything that raises a genuine safety concern — a gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm sounding, visible scorching — is not a recall question. Leave the building and call the gas emergency line first.

What matters most for HVAC product safety in the GTA
Right sizing, licensed gas/refrigeration work, and commissioning beat the cheapest sticker price. We verify airflow, safety devices, condensate paths, and controls so your system does not fail the first extreme week of the season. Ask us about dual-fuel, zoning, and rebate-eligible models during your quote.
Safety first — then efficiency
If a recall leads to a full system replacement, ask about high-efficiency options and possible rebates. Safety corrections come first; incentives are a secondary planning step.
Safety checklist for homeowners
  • Locate model and serial numbers on the nameplate
  • Keep manufacturer letters and notice IDs
  • Test carbon monoxide and smoke detectors monthly
  • Never bypass safety switches or limit controls
  • Watch for soot, scorch marks, or gas odours
  • Schedule service if the unit short cycles or overheats
  • Use licensed technicians for gas and refrigeration work
  • Call 647 953-4252 to verify recall status on your unit

Where this fits

Common HVAC product safety applications in Toronto & the GTA

Different buildings need different equipment paths. These are the scenarios we see most often.

Detached & semi-detached homes
Full replacements, dual-fuel strategies, and comfort fixes for older duct systems common across Toronto neighbourhoods.
Condos & townhomes
Compact footprints, quiet operation, and board-friendly installs where access and condensate matter.
Additions & renovations
Matching new loads without oversizing, including ductless zones where trunks cannot reach.
Light commercial
Retail, clinics, offices, and mixed-use spaces that need documented maintenance and predictable uptime.
Rental properties
Durable equipment choices, clear landlord options, and service plans that reduce emergency callouts.
Efficiency upgrades
High-AFUE / SEER2 / heat-pump paths with rebate paperwork guidance when programs apply.
Why Toronto Air Systems

Why safety notices need a licensed response

Local crews, licensed workmanship, and recommendations built around how Toronto buildings actually heat and cool — not generic scripts.

Combustion risk
Improper furnace or boiler work can create carbon monoxide hazards. Licensed technicians follow manufacturer instructions.
Documentation
Warranty and recall programs often require proof of professional completion.
Right parts
Corrective kits are model-specific. Guessing adapters is how unsafe installs happen.
Clear next steps
If a unit cannot be made safe economically, we say so and quote replacement paths.

Clients on safety-focused service

They verified our furnace serial against a manufacturer notice the same week and installed the corrective kit without drama.

CO detector went off — they told us to get out and call emergency services first, then came for HVAC follow-up. That priority order mattered.

Honest advice when our recalled-age unit was better replaced than patched. Quote was clear and the new install was tidy.
