Why is my boiler pressure low?
Most commonly a small leak somewhere in the system, or an expansion vessel that’s lost its air charge. Topping up the pressure without finding the cause usually means you’ll be back doing it again in a few weeks.
Is it safe to bleed a radiator myself?
Yes — bleeding a radiator with a standard radiator key is one of the few boiler-related tasks that’s safe for homeowners. Just check system pressure afterward, since bleeding can drop it slightly.
What does a lockout code mean on my boiler?
It means the boiler’s safety controls detected a fault and shut it down rather than risk unsafe operation. One reset is generally fine to try; a code that returns after reset needs a technician, not repeated resets.
Why does my boiler make a banging or rumbling noise?
This is almost always “kettling” — mineral scale or sludge on the heat exchanger causing localized boiling. It won’t fix itself and tends to accelerate exchanger wear the longer it’s left.
